Stolen Prayers – Collaboration with In Her Glory

We collaborated with IN HER GLORY for our What Lies Beneath Exhibition and made this cross sculpture out of candle wax, bones from small rodents and LED lights. It was an intense process but I was pretty happy with the result and to top it all off it was my first creative piece, plus Nicola from In Her Glory is always a good crack. I couldn’t let D2G have all the fun and be the only one taking the credit at the exhibition.

We did steal his idea though, of extracting rodent skeletons out of owl vomit and placing them in inside the cross. In Her Glory made the mould for the cross and we emptied the bones into the mould so that they would be on the face of the cross and filled it with hot liquid candle wax. A very messy exercise but thoroughly enjoyable.

Once the wax started to cool we began by removing the back top layer and then continued this process so that the cross was hollowed out. This was part of our design as we had to place LEDs within the cross so that it lit up like an American house over the Christmas holidays. The trickiest part was creating an exact replica of that mould and joining the 2 halves together – this was done using a variety of melting techniques, which we made up on the spot, and trying various glues, non of which worked at all. But we got there in the end and the final shot shows you the finished piece at the exhibition.

Check out the process shots.
